Welcome

Welcome to The Hawthorns School and thank you for visiting our website.

We are open in temporary accommodation in the centre of Chelmsford and are thrilled to announce that our new building 'over the fence' has finally started work and is due to be handed over December 2024 ready for our pupils in January 2025.  We are growing in numbers and, when full in 2026, will have 70 pupils KS2-4 with residential accommodation for 10 pupils.

We are dedicated to each individual pupil’s academic and personal progress within a rich, evolving and purposeful curriculum, which supports wellbeing alongside learning and achievement. All our pupils will have the development of their social communication skills as a core need as well as requiring adaptations to engage with learning. The promotion of these skills will, therefore, be at the heart of everything we do.

Our commitment is to work together with families to prepare our young people for adulthood with the skills, knowledge, confidence and understanding to navigate our complex world.

We will continually strive to provide high quality learning experiences so pupils can engage and learn alongside the support they require to succeed and achieve.

The Hawthorns strives to be an inclusive and welcoming place, where pupils can build lifelong skills and confidence that will enable them to be happy, healthy citizens who contribute to society.  Through our development of a deep understanding of individual needs, together with positive and boundaried relationships, we will empower our pupils to thrive and be successful.

I hope you find the website helpful and I look forward to hearing from you.

With very best wishes,

Diane Rigg, Headteacher
