The Therapeutic Curriculum at The Hawthorns School
We have a range of therapists on our team who support our pupils with barriers to engagement and wellbeing. They work as a team, but we split them into a core therapies team and a psychological therapy team.
The core therapies team includes Speech and Language therapy and Occupational therapy. We can also refer individuals to two psychological therapies, Music Therapy and Art Therapy, where a need is identified, and we feel one of these therapies may support. For further detail on the individual approaches, please see the document below.
Therapists work in collaboration with teaching staff and other outside agencies. They use evidence-based approaches to promote engagement, continued learning, personal development, self-advocacy and wellbeing. The therapies team contributes to continuing staff professional development through delivery of regular training and coaching sessions, supporting our child-centred approach.
We continually review our therapeutic offer to reflect the needs of our pupils.
**Important note: Pupils who have speech and language or occupational health provision written into their EHCP will transfer over from PROVIDE or another commissioned service to our therapists.**
