Mental Health, Wellbeing and Pastoral Support

At The Hawthorns School, we believe in promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing. Prioritising the wellbeing of students and staff, where the whole school community feels able to thrive.

The Hawthorns School aims to support each student with their emotional health and wellbeing.   As a school we approach this in various ways, including through our safeguarding team, Pastoral Lead and RSHE lessons.

For any member of our school community who may be experiencing poor mental health we have qualified Mental Health First Aiders along with our safeguarding and pastoral team who are available to listen, offer advice, and signpost families or students to agencies who can offer guidance.

The link to our Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy is under our policies page.

Pastoral Support

Gemma Crick, Nikki Kilpin and Sarah Bentley are our Pastoral Team. They work closely with parents, carers and muti-professionals with an aim to meet the therapeutic needs of each child and their families.

The pastoral team are available 8am-4pm Monday to Friday.  They will respond as soon as possible.

Below you will find some useful links aiming to support you and your family. The list below is not exhaustive so please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support you.

Visuals

Symbols give a picture clue for words and phrases. This can be useful for children who have problems understanding or remembering what words mean, or for those where English is a second language. Using symbols for labels and simple instructions gives a visual reminder to use alongside language. Symbols can help make the link between real objects and words.

The visuals below are regularly used within school so your child will be familiar with these.
